New family visa sponsorship rule December 17, 2008

A new rule in sponsoring families to Dubai or in UAE was proposed yesterday by the Federal National Council or FNC.

The proposal was to increase the minimum salary required for an expatriate – without company accommodation – to sponsor a family should be Dh10,000 and an expatriate with company accommodation, Dh8,000.

Having a salary lower than the required is not a problem, right? Salary certificate can be change by some HR department, I know that. But here is the other rule suggested by FNC.

Family visa applicants should also be asked to submit a bank statement of six months detailing salary transfer. So now you have a problem.

And what about getting a housemaid visa? FNC suggested that expatriate who wishes to apply for a housemaid visa should have a minimum salary of Dhs15,000.00 and an annual fee of Dhs7,000.00.

Dubai’s population by the end of the year will be 6.3 million and 5.5 million of it are foreign workers.

This is a stupid rule!!!

dubaicares - December 21, 2008

yeah..I’m sure everyone will say that the minimum salary required is too high. Hope FNC will change their mind…

2. SEO Dubai - December 17, 2008

right raven.. it’s crazy!

3. masroor - December 30, 2008

4. nasir - December 30, 2008

5. dubaicares - December 31, 2008

@nasir…as what they proposed, you are not qualify to sponsor a family

@masroor…yes you are qualified as per the above rule.

6. Praseeda Anilkumar - January 2, 2009

When FNC is planning to implement this rule? Im praying to drop this proposal.

7. biju - January 2, 2009

i want to sponsor a house maid from india and my salary and my wife salary altogether more than 15000 dirhams shall i am eligible to sponsor a house maid as per new rule

8. dubaicares - January 3, 2009

@Praseeda Anilkumar… as to when this rule be implemented is yet to be announced. So if you have plans of getting your family to Dubai, better do it now or be denied if you wait any longer.

@Biju…as what I know, yes you are eligible but you still need to enquire it from the DNRD to make sure. Visa rules here in Dubai are constantly changing so better to ask always. I’ll keep you inform once I get info.

9. Desitutu - January 3, 2009

I dont think that this rule shall be implemented. It is a crazy idea that will further destroy the economy. More than 80% of the expatriates living in the UAE earn a Salary less than AED 10,000. If this rule is implemented, it will be a chaos. People will move out. Expenditure in UAE will drop sharply. This will eventually mean in less spending and less income for the local businesses. Economy will suffer. As a result, the FNC has now planned to ban 57 categories from sponsoring their families.

10. tapan - January 4, 2009

its my request not to implement this rule.

30. Aneesh - July 20, 2009

Rule makers don’t know that they are in sinking boat .
effect will nagative in time recession .

31. Shiraz - July 23, 2009

This is inhumane and insane..Then in that case the visa authority should not be giving visas to people who are married or even planning to get married and earning lower salary than 10,000 AED. How are people going to live without their families? Such a decision will off course have a negative effect on the economy since most of the people will leave the country. There will be only managers (as generally those people will be earning this much salary) & basically no one to manage…It is completely unjustified.
