As Israel’s assault on Gaza becomes more intensive, His Highness Shaik Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai has ordered the cancellation of all forms of celebrations marking the New Year 2009 in Dubai, as an act of solidarity with the Palestinian people.

Hotels here in Dubai were ordered to cancel their New Year celebration. I wonder what it looks like not celebrating new year in this country. Will Shakira’s concert in Abu Dhabi be fun? I don’t think so.
the cause is good…
but they should have given the notice ahead of time.
what about those who have paid for reservations? people might rather stay at home… too late to prepare for the media noche and plan another activity…
this is another ‘history’ for dubai – world’s most silent new year’s eve celebration!
this means that raffles event will be cancel??
@Kali…Though I don’t have plans of going out this new year, it is silent because there will be no fireworks like the previous years.
question is, are we allowed to have parties at home?
